Production of dextran and dextran derivatives​


Physical characteristics of CM-Dextran :

CM-Dextran is a polyanionic derivative of Dextran. It is supplied as the sodium salt.  CM-Dextran is a white powder and is freely soluble in water and salt solutions. As the carboxymethyl groups of CM-Dextran are attached by a stable O-ether linkage, no stabilizer is needed and a solution may be sterilized by autoclaving. The high purity and reproducible quality commend CM-Dextran for many applications in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and cosmetic industry.

Chemical characeristics of CM-Dextran:

​Dextran sodium sulphate is prepared by reaction of dextran with chloro-acetic acid, followed by careful purification. 

The molecular weight denotation of ​Dextran sodium sulphate is the molecular weight in KDa divided by 1000. I.e. ​Dextran sodium sulphate 40 is ​Dextran sodium sulphate 40.000 KDa. 

Typical denotations are: 1,3,5,10,40,60,70,110,150, 250 and 500.

  • Preparation of low-toxic API formulations
  • Stable non-immunogenic additive
  • Stabilizer of proteins and sensitive biopolymers
